"I'm guessing 30 million of that went to fitting Kate's leather outfits."
Vampires are super hot right now, right? The first Underworld came out back
in 2003 when the air was cleaner. Back then the first film was actually not that bad, not great, but watchable. Most importantly it offered something to the current vampire meta-verse, and not just black leather. It had a sense of shiny style in its dark halls and ostentatious covens. Most importantly it captured the idea of a long and arrogant history.
Awakening loses almost all of this, redeemed by a single scene with a hand and a heart. The thing that bothers me the most is the distinct lack of locations in the film. Sure, not every movie needs to be a whirlwind continent hopping adventure but Lab -> Street -> Dam -> Lab is a little underwhelming for 70 million dollars.
I'm guessing 30 million of that went to fitting Kate's leather outfits. Also the makeup on the young girl never quite works.
